It’s said that our eyes are the windows to our souls. So here at BookWell we think we’d all better make sure that we give our eyes the respect they deserve. And the treats. We’re thinking eye masks, brow tints and the best eyelashes in town.
A perfectly sculpted brow can transform our entire face, make it appear slimmer, and open up the whole eye area. Get the perfect brow and you’ll never want a fringe again. Expertly applied faux eyelashes can have the same effect.
Go all out dramatic glamour on both lashes and brows, or tone down for a more subtle impact. A good therapist will listen and understand exactly what you want before starting any eye treatment and we’ve got these good, no, amazing, therapists by the bucket-(of eyelash glue)-load.
Eyelash extensions, not for fans of the makeup-wipe-and-go approach to skincare, are probably the ultimate treatment with guaranteed instant impact. While they do take a little bit of careful maintenance, imagine waking up looking like you still have your mascara on? And we don’t mean on your cheeks or on your pillow.
A professionally applied set of faux lashes will last a whole two week holiday. The time you spend looking after them (no dragging with a makeup wipe, remember?), you easily save in time not applying makeup, ‘Natural’ Beach Babe. That said, faux lashes don’t have to look natural. Be as bold as you like, knock people over with each flutter, if you will.
There are two main types of eyelash extensions; mink (or faux mink) and silk. They’re both applied individually which can take up to two hours, using a semi permanent glue. (It’s a pain, but a 24 hour allergy test should be essential - this is glue, on your eye. We’ll say no more.) They’ll normally need an infill at around three weeks.
Mink/faux mink lashes are super fine and feathery, perfect for a natural look with less weight on the lash line. Faux mink holds a curl better than real mink.
Silk (or synthetic) lashes are heavier and thicker, and therefore have a more dramatic effect. You’ll notice the feel of them a little bit more than lighter lashes but you’ll soon get used to them and if its dramatic, Hollywood glam you’re after, silk lashes are your thing. Perfect as party lashes.
For speedier impact, opt for an eyelash tint and lift. Lashes are tinted and curled to give the effect of wearing mascara. Minimal fuss, maximum time savings.
Light and wispy, bold and fierce, either way, having your eyebrows done is the ultimate in bare faced impact. The power of the brow.
Plucking, waxing and threading, most of us know the options when it comes to tidying up our brows. But what about actually changing the shape of them?
Eyebrow sculpting is a semi-permanent procedure where a skilled therapist applies a textured paint to the brows in strokes, defining them and giving them a more definite shape and thickness. The exact shape and colour will be tailored to suit you.
Eyebrow extensions are an option too. Applied with semi-permanent glue like faux lashes, you’ll end up with brows as natural as your own, just fuller and thicker.
Of course, you can always go for a traditional brow tint, adding colour like a hair dye to the brows you already have. Or, you could have your brows tattooed on…
For the ultimate, forever, low maintenance wow-brow go for microblading. Less dramatic but more natural looking than earlier forms of brow tattooing, microblading involves tattooing on brows in individual strokes. It shouldn’t be rushed, expect it to take a couple of hours.
